Viewing the OpenVPN Log
Knowledge Base > Troubleshooting > Viewing the OpenVPN Log

The OpenVPN log contains all information regarding an OpenVPN connection, including extra connection details about your connection, warning messages, and error messages. If you are unable to connect, or your VPN connection drops out, you should be able to find the reason contained in the OpenVPN log.

You can view the OpenVPN Log in Viscosity like so:

  1. Go to the Viscosity menu and open the Details window
  2. Make sure the correct connection is selected in the connection menu to the top-left hand corner of the screen
  3. Click on the Log button. This is the third button from the left.

  4. You can resize the window to get a better view of the log. Standard copy/paste/select-all shortcuts can be used to copy parts of the log to support staff if required.

There are several common error messages you may encounter in the Log. These can be found in the Common OpenVPN Errors Category.
